You Can’t Stop Fracking in Texas

They tried to stop fracking in the town of Denton, Texas, because of safety concerns, but in a victory for big oil and gas the Republican controlled House in Texas just passed a bill that prevents cities and counties from banning fracking on their land.
In January Texas Governor Greg Abbott complained his state was becoming more like California because of cities passing environmental regulations. “It’s being done at the city level with bag bans, fracking bans, tree-cutting bans,” said Abbott. “Unchecked over-regulation by cities will turn the Texas miracle into the California nightmare. This is a form of collectivism.”
After the speech, even the conservative-leaning Dallas Morning News criticized the governor posting an editorial headlined, Since When Did A Plastic Bag Ordinance Become A Collectivist Plot? “Enacting local limits on drilling or tree cutting or plastic bags or junk dealers isn’t collectivism. It’s good local government,” the editorial pointed out.
