Diana Ross on Maui

Making her first ever appearance in Hawaii at the weekend, Diana Ross was phenomenal on Sunday night at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. It was a love fest. Backed by a superb 12 piece band and with a spectacular multi-media video backdrop, it was remarkable how at 71 this legendary icon has a voice that sounds as compelling and unmarred by time as when she was with the Supremes.
Dazzling her sold out audience with numerous glamorous costume changes, she thrilled all with hit after hit from early classics like “Baby Love,” “Stop! In the Name of Love” and “Love Child” to the anthemic “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and the rousing “I Will Survive.” And finally closing with the unifying “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand).” Maui has rarely seen a concert that can come close to such a magical event.
