A group of Maui residents have delivered sections of a mile-long lei to Paris, as a symbol of aloha, kindness and love. The lei, launched by the Cynthia Rose Foundation, is made up of eight sections that combined, stretch a total of one mile. The lei was divided into eight sections – representing each of the Hawaiian Islands – and will be given to several memorial sites.
Organizers say the lei was sent to Paris “to remind the world of the existence and power of kindness, love and aloha – and to stand as a bright light to overpower the negativity in the world today.”
United Airlines offered free shipping for the 250-pound ti-leaf and orchid lei and a ticket for Ron Panzo, one of the organizers of the project.
Almost 200 volunteers participated in making the lei from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for two weekends. With all the contributions, the lei actually measured 60 yards longer than a mile. The extra lei will given as gifts to the surviving victims of the Paris terror attack. http://leiforparis.com/
