Climate Change Brandalism in Paris

vw7b31035fa-s1600-c85Timed with the climate change conference, a brilliant, subversive art campaign in Paris has replaced outdoor advertising spots on with art posters indicting big corporations for their role in climate change. A Volkswagen poster references recent revelations that the company has lied about  exhaust  emissions. “Now that we’ve been caught, we’re trying to make you think we care about the environment.”

Other companies targeted include Air France and Exxon-Mobil. Brandalism, the U.K. group behind the  campaign reported it replaced the ads at 600 spots across Paris.

“We are taking their spaces back because we want to challenge the role advertising plays in promoting unsustainable consumerism,” Joe Elan from Brandalism said in a statement. “Because the advertising industry force feeds our desires for products created from fossil fuels, they are intimately connected to causing climate change.”
